Legend of music, Vangelisthe composer of such mass Hollywood hits as “Chariots of Fire” and “Runner on the Blade” died.
A spokesman for Vangelis confirmed that he died at a hospital in France, where he was being treated for the disease … but it is unclear what he was struggling with.
Vangelis was a self-taught musician who became famous after recording the 1981 film Chariots of Fire. The soundtrack topped the Billboard charts … and, remarkably, it won an Oscar for Best Original Music.
In addition to the Oscars, he scored a goal Ridley Scott1982 film “Blade Runner” … and wrote songs for films, including “Bounty”.
He was 79 years old.
