Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marcena said the death toll from Ian has risen to 35.

Marcena announced this in his Facebook post.
Marcena also said that 600 to 700 people had been rescued as of Saturday morning.

Marcheno said authorities should notify next of kin before releasing the identities of those who died.

“It is with a heavy heart that I say this number,” Marcheno said.

“We’re going to work harder and we’re going to be stronger than ever,” Marcheno said.

Marcheno said that these terrible events bring us closer together.

Authorities said Friday that four people died on the Sanibel.

Ian made landfall in North Captiva at 3.10pm on Wednesday and left devastation in its wake.
