Withstanding their toughest test to date this season, the Eagles outlasted the Cardinals with an unblemished record. A pair of AFC teams, the Bills and Chiefs, continue to be consistent, while the Cowboys made some noise with a sweep of the defending Super Bowl champion Rams on Sunday.
After Week 5, here’s my take on the top 10 teams in the league.
1. Philadelphia Eagles (5-0)
Jalen Hurts plays as the MVP of the NFL’s only undefeated team. The third-year forward uses his unique skills as a dual-threat playmaker to spark rushes that stun opponents.
2. Buffalo Bills (4-1)
Josh Allen’s big play potential forces opponents to defend every blade of grass from sideline to sideline and goal line to goal line. With few defenses with enough quick defenders to account for his skills as a dynamic offensive weapon.
3. Kansas City Chiefs (3-1)
Patrick Mahomes and company continue to dominate the division, albeit in a different style in 2022. The dink-and-dunk approach is a sharp departure from the days when the team bombed with Tyreek Hillbut the wins keep coming as Andy Reid and his star quarterback adjust to their personnel.
4. Dallas Cowboys (4-1)
The Cowboys continue to wear down teams with a blue-collar approach that favors the run and defense. The formula isn’t sexy, but it has helped the Cowboys win four straight with QB1 on the sidelines.
Cooper Rush does it again for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4 | CARTON SHOW
Everyone expects Cooper Rush to fumble, but the backup quarterback continues to perform for the Dallas Cowboys, most recently in their win over the Washington Commanders. Craig Carton shares his big takeaways from the Cowboys’ Week 4 win, leading them to a 3-1 record.
5. Minnesota Vikings (4-1)
Kevin O’Connell’s offensive prowess made it difficult for the Vikings. with Justin Jefferson emerging as an unstoppable force on the perimeter, Kirk Cousins the offense plays like a well-oiled machine.
6. New York Giants (4-1)
Somewhere, Bill Parcells is beaming with pride as he watches the Giants crush opponents with the old-school power that helped the franchise to four Super Bowl titles. With a tough running game and stifling defense, the G-Men play a physical type of mistake-free football that makes them tough to beat.
7. Baltimore Ravens (3-2)
Lamar Jackson’s ability to own the game as a dynamic weapon allows the Ravens to win with grace and power. The former MVP turned the clock against of Bengal and continues to make several key plays on an assortment of designed quarterback runs and up-tempo passes to steal plays in the fourth quarter.
8. Green Bay Packers (3-2)
Aaron Rodgers grumpy after dropping the Giants game across the pond, but the four-time MVP will eventually help his young man grow up so the team can win a title.
Aaron Rodgers unhappy with Packers ‘losing their mindset’ | CARTON SHOW
Despite entering Week 5 in great favor, the Green Bay Packers left London adding a loss to their schedule after Daniel Jones and the New York Giants shut down Aaron Rodgers and pulled off a major upset. The Green Bay quarterback has been open about his frustration with his teammates making what he called “loser” comments, saying they need to test themselves ahead of the game against the New York Jets. Greg Jennings joins Craig Carton to talk about Aaron Rodgers’ comments and whether the Packers have anything to worry about as the season continues.
9. San Francisco 49ers (3-2)
Jimmy G has quietly put the 49ers back in the mix as a viable contender in the NFC. With a defense that suffocates opponents, the veteran just needs to make a few plays each week to lead his team to the winner’s circle.
10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2)
It wasn’t pretty, but the Buccaneers found ways to win games without playing their best football. If the defense plays well and the offense deals with its identity crisis, the Buccaneers remain a viable title contender.
