CENTRAL PARK, Manhattan (WABC) – A celebration of Italian heritage took place in Central Park Saturday morning.

The “Run for Italy” was sold out – more than five thousand runners took part in it.

The four-mile run was organized by the Consulate General of Italy, Ferrero North America and the New York Road Runners.

The first run in Italy took place in 2018. The organizers hoped that it would become an annual tradition, but had to be suspended for the first two years of the pandemic.

On Saturday it was back and better than ever and after the race there was an opportunity for the runners to sample the goods of various Italian brands.
