DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — Several shots rang out near the MetroTech Center, prompting an alert to be sent out to students at the nearby New York University campus.

Shots were fired at Bridge Street and MetroTech Center just before 11:00 a.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Witnesses told police that a group of eight to 10 men fled into Bridge Street, some of them possibly wearing ski masks.

No casualties have been reported yet.

NYU campus security sent out a gunshot alert to students and advised them to “run, hide or fight.”

After 40 minutes, the all clear was given.

Police are still on the scene and investigating the incident.
