(Update) The D&Z Family Responds to Backlash for Virus Rescue Video and Gives a Rundown of What Happened

A recently popular family of social networks The D&Z family faced backlash from social media users after they were accused of organizing rescues during the flooding that occurred in Florida due to Hurricane Ian. They denied the allegations and responded with statements about what happened behind the viral TikTok videos.

In a new seat video Desiree and Zay, along with Zay’s mother, talked about what made them even go outside when their neighborhood was still flooded. They explained that they had parked their cars elsewhere to prevent extensive damage from the storm. When things calmed down, they went to collect their cars, and that’s when the videos started.

They explained that Zay’s mom, who had come from Atlanta, had left her car in a garage nearby. They dropped her off so she could pick up the car. What she didn’t know, however, was that the area she was trying to reach was heavily flooded. She struggled to reach Desiree and Zay to let them know that there was too much water where she was trying to go. They also admitted that they tried to reach her as well, but could not because of the service. However, they were able to use social media to try to help their situation.

Desire’e and Zay say as content creators, they show the good and the bad, and documenting the process is part of what they do, and it helped them in this situation as well. A fan saw the videos they were making and it helped them find Zay’s mother. They apologized if anyone thought they were using the floods as a way to make content, but they say the situation was very real for them.
