With five Friday nights left in the Florida high school season, Brevard County was as exciting as ever.
In an 11-week season, we can get away with treating the end of Week 6 as the middle. Here’s our look at some of the highlights from the first half of the season.
The biggest surprise:
Titusville. The Terriers are 3-2, the first time since 2016 that the team has won more than two games in a season. With the exception of Oct. 14 at Cocoa, the rest of the games for Titusville look competitive. Stay tuned for updates.

Best games:
Eau Gallie, twice. The Commodores beat Bishop Moore 20-17 in week three. They had to recover a fumbled punt in the final seconds to secure the victory. Eau Gallie lost to Merritt Island 14-13 in overtime on Monday in a game that started with Robert Stafford’s touchdown return and ended with the Mustangs’ defensive stand.
The fastest start:
Rockledge picked up two convincing wins over established South Florida teams to start the season, both at McLarty Stadium. The Raiders beat Gulliver Prep 37-0 before beating Doral Academy 45-7.
Week by week:2022 Brevard HS football schedule and results
Games to watch:
Palm Bay’s visit to Melbourne’s Tom McIntyre Stadium on Friday is a neighborhood game, although the Pirates have dominated that series. Both have winning seasons.
Rockledge may need to shut down as quickly as it started. The Raiders face three intriguing games to close out the regular season: at Merritt Island on Oct. 21, at home at Eau Galli on Oct. 28 and at Cocoa on Nov. 4.
The most interesting district race:
It may not be as strong a district as it was in 2021, but the Brevard district, now known as 10-3S, has some good competition. Along with Rockledge’s two intriguing games against the Mustangs and Commodores, Bayside still has to play in Eau Gallie, while Satellite and Merritt Island resume a streak that took two games last year.
