5 NYPD officers injured in Brooklyn crash and fight with suspect fleeing Suffolk County, Long Island

DYKER HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) — Five police officers were injured in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, during the arrest of a home burglary suspect who escaped from Suffolk County police.

Officers apprehended the suspect at 12th Avenue and 86th Street around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after his vehicle was spotted on the Belt Parkway.

A suspect is on the run from Suffolk police who are trying to arrest him for the knife abduction of his girlfriend.

NYPD officers apprehended the suspect on local streets, and the suspect’s vehicle collided with police patrols. As a result of the accident, three employees were injured.

While other officers took the 33-year-old suspect into custody, two other officers were injured.

All five officers were treated for minor pain complaints at Maimonides Medical Center, where they were treated and released.

The suspect was taken to Lutheran Medical Center with a minor laceration to the head. A knife was found in his car.

Charges against the man are pending in New York, where he is expected to face charges of assaulting a police officer and various traffic violations, and in Suffolk County, where he is expected to face charges related to with kidnapping.

Suffolk Police are now interviewing the woman, who was not injured.
