NEW YORK (WABC) – The 78th annual Columbus Day Parade returns to New York’s Fifth Avenue on Monday, October 10, 2022.

Tom Galizano, founder of Paychex and renowned philanthropist, is this year’s grand marshal.

As grand marshal, Galison will lead the marching bands, floats and more than 100 marching bands along the Fifth Avenue parade route, from 44th to 72nd Streets.

You can watch the parade live on Channel 7, WABC-TV and wherever you broadcast ABC 7 New York from noon to 3pm on Monday.

The parade is the world’s largest Columbus Day celebration, with tens of thousands of people visiting the city in celebration of Italian-American heritage.

Eyewitness News’ Ken Rosato, Sandra Bookman and Lauren Glasberg will be broadcasting the Columbus Day Parade on WABC-TV Channel 7 and wherever you watch ABC 7 New York from noon to 3 p.m.

The Columbus Day parade tradition began when Pope Generosa led a group of Italian Americans from East Harlem to Columbus Circle in 1929. The parade was established as an official celebration of Columbus and Italian heritage in 1944, and this year the event celebrates its 78th anniversary. This year, groups, institutions and partners from the United States and Italy will participate in the celebration.
