A firefighter and father of two twins died suddenly in Georgia, leaving his family, friends and community in mourning.

The Newnan Fire Department shared news about a 44-year-old man Death of Damien Sorrells on 11 October.

“Firefighter Sorrells loved the fire service and had the biggest servant’s heart you could find. It was an honor to work alongside Firefighter Sorrells and he will be greatly missed,” the fire department wrote on Facebook. “On behalf of the Newnan Fire Department, we extend our deepest condolences to the Sorrell family.”

The fire department did not release Sorrells’ cause of death.

Other agencies shared their condolences, including the Coweta County Fire-Rescue team, which called Sorrells “one of the most sincere servant leaders you would ever meet,” and said his death will leave a “huge hole in many hearts.”

Sarello’s Facebook profile reflected his love of being a firefighter along with his family and two twin children.

“He was one of the good guys,” Tova Reeder, a family friend, wrote on Facebook. “Always the life of the party. He loved his wife, family and friends and never met a stranger. I am proud to serve as a firefighter and a Bulldogs fan.

“You were a pure joy to be around,” fellow firefighter Josh Till wrote in memory of Sorrells. “You were devoted to our profession and loved with all your heart.”

Newnan is about 40 miles southwest of Atlanta.
