NYC crime: NYC school employee dies after shooting in Brooklyn;  A 19-year-old suspect has been detained

FLATLANDS, Brooklyn (WABC) — A New York school employee died in Brooklyn on Tuesday after being shot in the head, and police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting.

A 19-year-old New York City school employee is in critical condition after being shot in the head in Brooklyn.

The incident happened around 2:50 p.m. outside the deli at 5022 Avenue M in the Flatlands neighborhood.

Police sources say the gunman fired four shots, hitting the teenager once in the head.

They say that there was not a word between them, and there was no argument before the shot.

The Department of Education says the victim works as a paraprofessional in District 75, which is in the same building as PS 203 Floyd Bennett.

He was shot less than a block from the school and was the intended target of the shooting, according to police sources.

The victim was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

Surveillance video obtained exclusively by Eyewitness News captured the moments before the shooting.

The New York police description matches the description on the surveillance video. They say the suspect was wearing a red rag and a black parka over a red hoodie.

Moments after he walks past the camera, you can see how people react to the shots.

Police say there is security camera footage from multiple angles.

They say that the shooter took off in a dark-colored Lexus.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. The investigation continues.
