The DeSoto County School District said it will begin reopening schools to students in two phases starting next week.
The district says the next schools will open during the first phase on Oct. 17.

- West Primary School
- DeSoto High School
- DeSoto High School
- DeSoto Virtual Academy
The second stage is more difficult for the district. The district hopes to open DeSato County High School and Nocatee Elementary School between Oct. 24 and Nov. 7.
Two schools were heavily damaged during Hurricane Ian, and the school district says it will take longer to get them back up and running. The district said it will have a better idea of when the two schools might reopen next week.
The DeSoto School District said its mission is to get students and staff back into schools and facilities as quickly as possible and to keep everyone safe. They said that an industrial hygienist inspects and cleans all facilities.
