People are encouraged to sign up for the free blue tarp program

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is encouraging people to sign up for the Blue Tarp Program.

Until about 20 thousand people signed up build a temporary roof in their houses.

Operation Blue Tarp is a free program offered through FEMA.

You can register online here or you can visit one of their mobile registration clinics.

There are five different locations where you can register for the program and sign a right-of-entry document that allows the US Army Corps of Engineers to come to your home and install a blue tarp.

The initial registration window will end on October 23.

A free service for homeowners, these blue tarps are only a temporary fix, but they protect your home and allow you to stay home while you recover from the storm.
