Washington, D.C. authorities say a man is accused of drunken driving on a jet ski that collided with another, killing a woman.
Stephen A. Lubeck, 29, was riding a jet ski southbound on St Columbia River when he collided with a 39-year-old woman riding a jet ski westbound on Sunday, Oct. 9, the Vancouver Police Department said in a news release.
Police, along with the “Vancouver Fire Department, Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Coast Guard marine units,” responded to a call about a boat collision on the “West Promenade, near the Grant Street Pier” at about 7:30 p.m., police said.
According to police, the woman “did not survive her injuries.”
According to police, Lubeck and the woman did not know each other.
In a breath test taken that evening, Lubeck had a blood alcohol content of 0.009 units, court records show, according to The Columbian. “The the legal drink drive limit on our waterways is 0.08,” according to the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission.
Lubeck told police he started drinking around noon and “drank three or four Coors Light beers about an hour before jet skiing,” according to a probable cause affidavit, according to The Columbian.
Lubeck was arrested and faces charges of vehicular homicide and DUI, police said.
Vancouver is about 135 miles southwest of Tacoma.
