Vero Beach High School football is one of the main attractions in town every Friday in the fall.
On Friday morning, the whole country got a little taste of what Vero football is all about.
The program has been nationally televised on the TODAY Show as part of the “Friday Morning Lights” segment that travels across the United States and talks about what makes high school football special.

With a long history of success, Vera Beach qualified as a program that earned state status in 1981, sent countless players through the collegiate ranks and set a state record by winning 65 consecutive regular season games from 2013-2020. under the leadership of head coach Lenny Jankowski.
Jankowski was grateful that his program and his players took part in something memorable Friday night against Wellington in the homecoming game, and booster club president Angela Banzoff singled out the program for selection and recognition.
“Angela is the biggest booster president in the entire country, she was behind the scenes organizing all of this,” Jankowski said. “We were honored to be chosen. I’m a little biased, but I think it’s deserved, I think there’s no better place for Friday Night Lights for this part of the world. It’s definitely nice to be recognized.”
The Pride of the Treasure Coast Marching Band and Vero Beach Cheerleaders were featured along with the football team, which is currently 6-0 against Wellington.
Ranked 11th overall in the FHSAA RPI, Vero Beach is the top seed in Class 4S and will look to win another district championship with three games against District 12-4S opponents Centennial, Martin County and Treasure Coast in the next three weeks. .
