Two adults have been arrested after an abused boy was forced to sleep outside, sometimes without food, South Carolina police say.
29-year-old Damonique Jamal Davis arrested and charged Thursday, Oct. 6, battery with serious bodily injury to a child and disorderly conduct toward a child, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
The boy’s mother, who McClatchy News is not naming to protect the child’s identity, was also arrested and charged Oct. 6, according to the sheriff’s office. She was charged with abuse by allowing another person to cause serious bodily injury to a child and unlawful conduct toward a child.
Between Nov. 12, 2019, and Aug. 16, Davis used multiple objects to repeatedly assault the boy, officials said. During the two years of violence, the boy was between 9 and 11 years old.
Investigators say the child’s body was left with “severe scars and several broken bones” as a result of the attacks.
Objects used in the rape included Davis’ arms and legs, extension cords, metal poles and wooden boards, cops said. Davis is also accused of forcing the boy to sleep outside, sometimes refusing to give him food.
Officials say the boy’s mother did not report his injuries or seek medical attention.
Both adults are being held at the Florence County Detention Center pending bond hearings, police said.
Florence is about 80 miles east of Columbia.
