Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to a world of monsters and supernatural mayhem. Gellar stars in new Paramount+ series Wolf Pack from Jeff Davis, producer “Wolf”. But in addition to similar themes, the action of the series unfolds in a new world, with a new pack of wolves. As Davis, Gellar and the rest of the cast explained during a discussion in New York Comic Con On October 7, the new series will be tougher and tougher than “Wolf” fans are used to.

Gellar revealed why she decided to return to the supernatural realm after exploring it for seven seasons on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. “It has to be something that resonates with me because I owe it to you and to myself,” she explained. The show, she said, explores issues related to mental health, relationships and climate change (the instigator being a wildfire). The supernatural, she says, is “how we explain things that we cannot understand, or that in real life would be too depressing or upsetting. We scare ourselves to understand.” Also, the show, she said, “seems scary.”

Gellar is joined in the series by veteran actor Rodrigo Santoro and four newcomers who play the main group of teenagers: Armani Jackson as Everett, Bella Shepard as Blake, Chloe Rose Robertson as Luna and Tyler Lawrence Gray as Harlan. Santoro’s character, Garrett, is a park ranger and the father of two teenagers. The series is based on the novel “Wolf Pack” by Ed van Belkam.

“It’s dark, it’s violent, and there’s a lot of romance,” teased Gray, whose character is gay. Jackson admitted he was nervous on set with Gellar, who said the youth of her cast mates was something she let fuel her on set. “I get to relive it through their eyes, which makes it even more exciting for me and, frankly, more enjoyable,” she said of going on this journey with them.
